Rubber-to-metal bonding inserts

An NVH bush isolates vibration between a suspension arm, subframe or engine mount and the body. Rubber is moulded and chemically bonded to a metal inner metal or inner sleeve; the outer shell is pressed into the arm or bracket.

  • The insert carries the bolt clamp load — so it is cold formed in boron steel and heat treated (around 30–36 HRC).
  • Its shape locks the rubber: a flared conical flange, a bulged barrel, end slots or serrated end faces stop the rubber turning or sliding.
  • The surface is prepared for bonding — steel-grit blasted or zinc phosphated — and kept free of oil so the bonding agent holds.
  • Ends and bores are held to tight tolerances so the bush seats square and the bolt passes freely.
